Naturally dyed pieces are created using living colour.
They will naturally shift with time, just as everything in nature does.
However, there are several key things you can do for washing to maintain the longevity of the colour and keep it vibrant for years to come.
Washing Instructions
Hand wash in cold water or on a gentle cold water cycle. Avoid using hot water, it opens up the fibres and can cause colour to bleed.
Wash using a small amount of PH neutral eco friendly detergent.
Only soak for 15 or so minutes, anything longer than that is too long.
Never bleach the garments or use things like vinegar/lemon juice.
Do not spot clean.
Lay flat or hand to dry, out of direct sunlight. This is very important, hanging in direct sunlight can lead to fading of the colour.
Natural dyes are not synthetic dyes and we should not expect them to behave like they are. They are made using natural materials, the idea of permanence is a strictly human concept. Throughout the years of wearing your pieces it is normal for the colours to shift, they are a living mosaic to the natural world. I think that's quite beautiful, don't you?
